Bank House - Sleeps 8. BH GREY LOUNGE

Bank House

Bank House.... a sumptious property in perfect decorative order, full of historic character and with award winning gardens, situated centrally within the village, and conservation area of Broughton in Furness.

Architecturally interesting, Bank House is a late 19th century residence of note. Built around 1880, this home was originally constructed for a bachelor bank manager.

Bank House still comprises all of this original house, which did at one time envelop the whole of the bank.

Bank House is situated very conveniently in the heart of Broughton in Furness village. Handy for the local newsagents and post office, there's also a first class greengrocer with a vast array of produce.

Right next door to the greengrocer is a renowned butcher, who not only sells top class meat, but boasts a very tempting array of fresh daily pies, home made cook in sauces, jams, pickles, biscuits and cakes.

Next to these two stalwarts of the village sits The Broughton Bakery - fabulous freshly made bread every day, a mouth watering selection of cakes made using high quality ingredients, a cafe on site from which you can sample their wares and even use the wi-fi available there if you need to catch a message while you're on the go.

So really, Broughton in Furness is a quintessentially old fashioned English village in the Lakes, but with just enough of all the modern touches to give perfect balance.

Fancy eating out? There are two pubs within easy walking distance - The Black Cock Inn and The Kings Head. The Manor serves great beer and ales. For such an intimate village, we are blessed to be serviced with such a range of good food choices. A little further afield (but not far) lies The Prince of Wales and The Blacksmiths Arms. Try one, or try them all!

Well, we'd better tell you a little about the house, for we could talk all day about what Broughton in Furness has to offer its visitors.

Bank House - Sleeps 8. BH GREY LOUNGE WINDOW

Bank House Lounge

One of two large, spacious and rather grand lounges, the stylish grey lounge at Bank House has everything you need to make guests comfortable.

A lovely calming palette of colours, cooling in the summer months, and yet you can sink into the sofa in front of a roaring log burner on a windy autumn evening with friends and enjoy the sheer bliss, whatever the season at Bank House.

Bank House is a great base from which to plan a cycling or walking holiday or special weekend with options right from the door. Scenic cycleways/walkways now exist in both directions along the disused Coniston railway track. You can cycle over to Coniston via Woodland. There are links from The High Cross to the Cumbria Coastal Way... possibilities are many, from well worn popular cycling and walking routes, to quieter, less well trodden paths.

Bank House has a large internal basement area for secure storage of biking and walking gear.

Bank House - Sleeps 8. BH RED LOUNGE HOME PAGE

Bank House 2nd Lounge

Bank House has a second characterful lounge to offer it's guests.

Quite a different feel this time, rich red tones throughout, from the drapes to the sofa to the walls.

A real wood-burning fire in this lounge, what could be better on a cold winter's night at Bank House?

Bank House - Sleeps 8. BH RED LOUNGE WINDOW

Bank House 2nd Lounge

Taken from a different perspective, notice again how this Bank House lounge has another sweeping expanse of window looking out to the pebbledashed borders outside the house.

Bank House offers privacy for its guests, and there are mature hedges and foilage outside which provide this, whilst also giving a very pleasant view from the windows.

Bank House - Sleeps 8. BH KITCHEN

Bank House Kitchen

A real country kitchen, in beautiful creams, with a terracotta tiled floor, loads of light pouring in through the windows, and a homely quality about all of it.

Bank House kitchen is an absolute treat and we think this room will be the hub of all things good, a fabulous room to prepare food, cook, eat together, make memories and share good times.

Bank House - Sleeps 8. BH KITCHEN AGA

Bank House Aga

Did we mention the Aga at Bank House?

Well, here it is. Gas converted and controlled, its warmth conveys the perfect welcome after a long walk or day's activity.

In fact it's always comfortingly warm, another reason why we think guests will be naturally drawn to the Bank House kitchen!

Bank House - Sleeps 8. BH DINER

Bank House Diner

We think many a convivial breakfast will be consumed by our guests at Bank House!

As well as many a glass of wine drunk and stories told, secrets shared, chats and catch-ups enjoyed!

The larger table shown opposite fits everyone around comfortably, and it's really not far from cooker to table! There is a lovely outside table and chairs to seat all guests for the summer weather when eating al fresco in the garden is a must.

There are also a couple of other more traditional cookers in the kitchen at Bank House for those of us who are less adventurous - both an electric oven and a gas hob next to the Aga.

Of course there's Wi-Fi!

Bank House is a great base from which to explore the western Lakes. Our nearest lake is Coniston, situated a very pleasant and scenic 20/25 minute drive away via Torver. From there, Windermere and Ambleside are easily accessible in a short space of time. Why not try Chesters by the River on your way over to Ambleside? The menu is exclusively vegetarian, tasty, heavenly, served by relaxed and friendly staff.

Bank House - Sleeps 8. BH Hallway

Bank House Hallway

We are pleased to introduce you to Bank House hallway, the woodwork is rather stunningly beautiful, and the original bells can still be seen on the upper wall which were used to summon the servants from the cellar.

You can also see the broad front door, and a sweeping staircase leads you to the Bank House bedrooms on the upper floor.

Bank House - Sleeps 8. Bank House Bathroom

Bank House Bathroom

Understated decor, and stylish, the Bank House family bathroom in white and deep grey with shutters to the windows is a bijou "shabby chic" design, and we really love it.

The toilet, in the same design as the bathroom is handily separate from the washbasin and bath, and located right next door.

Bank House - Sleeps 8. Bank House Bathroom No 2

Bank House Bathroom

A panoramic view from the Bank House family bathroom door.

You can see the ornate tiling design above the bath, and also just about see the beautiful wooden floor which is also present in the toilet cubicle.

All rooms are spacious throughout Bank House, with high ceilings, often sloping in places.

Bank House - Sleeps 8. BH 1ST BEDROOM

Bank House 1st Double Bedroom

The feeling of light and space that the decor and curtain panels create can be difficult to describe with words that do it justice, but needless to say there is a real sense of well being here.

An aura of peacefulness which we think will transfer through into our guests at Bank house, leaving them feeling relaxed, refreshed and able to return home fully recharged.

Bank House - Sleeps 8. BH EN SUITE

Bank House Bedroom En-suite

The first double bedroom you come to at Bank House is an en-suite bedroom.

With a large walk in shower, toilet and washbasin, the en-suite is a very comfortable and luxurious accompaniment to the master bedroom at Bank House.

Bank House - Sleeps 8. BH 1ST BEDROOM 2

Bank House 1st Double Bedroom

Taken from a different angle, it's hard to believe we are still in the master bedroom at Bank House!

A spacious bedroom, contrasting creams against the warmth of the russet, a lovely contrast.

We think a return trip will be on the cards!

Bank House - Sleeps 8. BH 2ND BEDROOM

Bank House 2nd Double Bedroom

The second double room at Bank House is absolutely a stunner.

Keeping the theme of cool grey and crisp white, this large room really gives off an ambience of a gentleman's residence.

Bank House 2nd Double Bedroom

Taken from a different angle, we think this photograph shows how spacious and light this bedroom at Bank House is.

This room has a quite unique feature! Take a look down to the left as you enter - the original keylock to the bank safe can still be seen!

Bank House - Sleeps 8. BH 3RD BEDROOM

Bank House 3rd Double Bedroom

This bedroom at Bank House we think will become a favourite!

Not quite as large as the others, but with it's own charm, and a beautifully sloping roof, it's a real cosy room for a couple to share, and enjoy a really restorative night's sleep.

Bank House - Sleeps 8. BH 4TH BEDROOM

Bank House 4th Double Bedroom

This bedroom at Bank House is situated on the ground floor next to the grey lounge.

Both a double bed and also a single bed reside in this room - quite a handy little room for children to share.

Bank House History & Gardens

Bank House is situated on Station Road in Broughton in Furness village. Bank House boasts award winning gardens. You really do get the complete package - a beautiful house, complimented by so much greenery, private gardens which provide an absolute oasis of calm and tranquility with all the convenience of a central village location.

The railway station is of course now long gone, having first reached Broughton in 1850, but the road name remains, as a nod to that bygone era.

The nearest railway station is now located at Foxfield, which is only a five minute drive away, and we do have a number of guests in our cottages who arrive in at Foxfield station and find the fifteen minute walk into Broughton (or a short taxi ride) very convenient for their needs.

Bank House - Sleeps 8. BH Garden Entrance

Sitting Out

There's a very pretty area to the front of Bank House shown above, where you can sit and enjoy fresh air and the shrubbery. The entrance to the rear gardens is shown opposite.

Your privacy is protected by quite a tall hedge which encloses the property at both the front and the side, and affords you peace and relaxation without being overlooked.

There are more than a few perfect spots within Bank House gardens which make for little get-aways in themselves. A perfect spot to watch the wildlife rustle about at dusk. A beautiful sunken garden with the main outdoor table and chairs for all family and friends to relax together.
